I found my way into this role after a lengthy career in the caring professions – in my case, social work, probation & family court work, as well as work with a leading mental health charity.  Among my first experiences of humanist ceremonies was a family funeral as well as a naming ceremony.  Experiences I stored away until the opportunity came for me to train.

From 2004 onwards, I became one of Humanists UK’s busiest celebrants for quite a few years but I stopped taking wedding and naming referrals in 2021 and now concentrate on funerals and memorials, There’s a great sense of responsibility for ensuring each ceremony meets the needs of those involved and I trust that I bring experience, care and warmth to each and every occasion.  Even the saddest of funerals offers an opportunity to help those involved take just one painful step forward in the way that is best for them. Celebrating a life well lived can joyful too in some ways and our ceremonies seek to balance the many aspects of loss.  I try to keep my usual working area to East Kent as over the years, we’ve built a team of Humanists UK celebrants all around the county.
