I’m Dr Lottie Holmes and I’m an accredited naming celebrant by Humanists UK. I work in South West London and the surrounding areas.
I decided to become a celebrant as it seemed a natural progression from the work I was already doing. It’s also a wonderfully joyous thing to be part of and being able to do for others.
Each ceremony is unique and personal to the family holding it.
While completing my PhD I started teaching at the university and then in schools and private tuition. I found working with students, working out lesson plans for individuals and sharing my passion for science much more rewarding than the research I was undertaking. Therefore on completion of my doctorate I moved out of research.
Additionally I have been an active leader within Girlguiding UK for more than 10 years, running weekly meetings, residential and large scale events. This was a way of expressing my creativity as well as the personal interaction by helping the growth of the girls I was working with.
This all lead me to move to becoming a celebrant, as I could express my creativity in each unique ceremony, working with people and to celebrate important landmarks in life.
